the lumps in my abdomen (lipomas)have now spread and my abdomen is much more swollen (waist measurement has increased by 2-3" to 45".pain felt allover abdomen around chest and back,i know it is dercums disease but my doctor didnt agree although he has never heard of it.
Understand your predicament. Your symptoms could be due to dercums disease. Here the therapy is aimed at relieving symptoms. Analgesics and steroids will help with the pain and inflammation. Surgical excision is resorted to if symptomatic, but is likely to cause recurrence.
Dear Dr Anitha
can i tell you my concerns.
originally i went to my DR because over last 2 years my weight increased by 2-3 stones and abdomen became really swollen and recently swelled by 2-3 " more or less overnight.it became hard and more lumpy and very sore all around my abdomen to my back(left side)and around ribs which are protruding on left side and very painful when i lie down at night and i cough with it.i can only lie on either side for a short time so have poor sleep pattern.i ahve had scans and exploratory ops but all were normal.i began to read about cases wher epeople have had normal scans and have had a swollen abdomen, looking like several months pregnant and been diagnosed with an ovarian cyst so big and yet undetected..my abdomen is so swollen it looks like i am pregnant and i cant go out without a big coat on to hide it.my DR refused to refer me to a gynaecologist so I am going to see a private gynaecologist in the near future and maybe go back to this new doctor as fresh ears may listen to me.i went to A&E on tuesday with abdominal /chest pains where i struggled to walk my dogs and has to stop every so often to ease pain in my ribs.I had an abdominal xray on tuesday and they said that was normal.i still fail to see how a cyst cannot show on a scan or xray when my abdomen is visibly huge.
Abdominal distension can be due to fluid, gas, tumor or fat and sometimes due to pregnancy. So, if its due to fluid, tumor or pregnancy, it should have been picked up by a scan. In the absence of which the distention could be due to fat or gas. For now, you follow some good lifestyle measures for the bloating to decrease. Eat food rich in plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, avoid spicy and fatty food, avoid smoking and eliminate alcohol. Do not consume caffeinated beverages. Practice good relaxation techniques like yoga and meditation. Exercise regularly. Go for long relaxed walks. Maintain a food dairy and try to identify those foods which are likely to produce bloating and avoid them. If these measures don't help consult your primary care physician.
whatever the reason fro my huge abdomen no one has ever given me a reason-just that scans are clear and palmed off with medication.Regarding waht i eat I dont eat spicy foods, very little fatty food(dont fry very nuch)i wlak my dogs every day fro up to an hour -hour and ahlf every morning and s shorter walk in evening.i dont eat much as i neve feel hungry and feel full very quickly (somethign invading my stomach space??)Regarding scans etc i have had ,I have read so many stories of people who have huge cysts and all the scans they have had did not pick up the Cyst, this is exactly my situation btu no one is listening to me.I do have pea sized lumps all around my abdomen and spreading as is the pain around my ribs.I have protruding ribs on left side and have no answers as to what causes that.iahve had chronic disabling pain in my ribs at th eback on my right side.it is now affecting my legs which are hard lumps painful to touch.i ahve pain from head to toe.since about june i have had a swollen painful nose and also swelling around my eyes and lef tside of head(head pain constant)i also have had brusiing around my eyes from june .i was given anasal spray and antibiotics which ddint cure it,and as it is likely to be a sinus problem my GP has never referred me to ENT
also when my GP refused to refe rme because as he said i have had scaans but these were way back in january before my abdomen got so big and before i got the lumps in my abdomen.i amseeing a different gp tomorrow (the same one who sent me to see a cardioloigst)and hope he will listen to me.someone shoul dbelieve my dogs because they know somethign is not right weith me,
Understand your predicament.
The pain could also be due to renal colic. Small stones can obstruct the passage of urine and when the body tries to 'push' against the blockade this results in colic, which is severe attacks of pain. The other causes for the pain could be infections of the bowel and bladder, prolapsed intervertebral disc or inflammatory diseases of the colon. Discuss these options with your doctor when you happen to meet him next time.
thank you for your comments.i have had some disabling pain on the right side of my back just below shoulder blade and around ribs area.whenver i see my GP everything i mention is not acknowledged,i ahve told them that any weight gain is all in my abdominal area and lsot weight elsewhere, rib pain and protruding ribs fro a year.solid mass in abdomen, lipomas in abdomen spreading around and to groin area.i had op to prevent stress incontinemce and think this is caused by the solid mass(cysts)in my abdomen as that got worse as my stomach gto bigger nad harder and mor elumpier.last sunday my abdomen grew even more andi wa sin excruciating pain and i think this may have damaged my pelvic floor muscles again as seem to have some discharge or slight leakage.the new doctor i saw seemed good at first but he is being trained by my own GP so it sjust the same-me telling him stuff and not always everythign being done.
if only they would listen in the first palce i wouldnt have to keep goign back
and suffer so much pain and disconfort.i cannot sleep fro it and eatign is so painful;.i have shown them articles i ahve read about wher epeople who have cysts which scans dont detect and their DR s ignored them and on teh news the otehr day a woman sadly lost her life to ovarian cancer becasue after 40 trips to her DR and A&E they failed to listen to her .i amso scared now becasue somethign is seriously wrong and noone is listening i just cry allthe time, teh only one swho really show any love and comfort are my dogs.if i ddint have them i would have nothing to live for, and i am so scared i wont be ther efor them.
Understand your predicament. But please don't worry mam. If there is a cyst it will be picked by an ultrasonogram or by CT scan. In the absence of which it is unlikely to be there. Check your urine and stools to see if there is any change. Also, are your periods regular?
i have no problem with my uirne or stools,i stopped periods about 4 years ago.i am due fro ecg this week and ctscan following week, had ct scan about jauary time but said it didnt show anything.read a blog from a student nurse who has an ovarian cyst and she said taht they do not show up on cans,if not this this still leaves me the question why is my abdomen so huge and a solid mass.it can only be a cyst or tumour?
