mixed diagnosis

I recently had a massive ear infection.  The doctor I saw prescribed pain killers, which worked fine, and amoxiccilin antibiotics.  It took about five days but the pain went and my ear felt fine.  The problem was it seemed to me that I suddenly went deaf in both ears.  My doctor advised that I see an ENT specialist and after a number of test he gave me a nose spray and sent me home.  I understand he has trained for many years and should know what he is doing but he told me very little.  Confused about this I wentt to see my doctor again and he told me the ENT said I had cattarh.  I am given to understand that cattarh is a chest infection, can you tell me what this has to do me being half deaf?

I hope you can help me as this is so frustrating for me.

thank you.
