serious hyoid bone problems

Hello everyone,  Im new to this board. Its wonderful to find others suffering as well as myself.  About 7 weeks ago,  I had swallowed a pill that got lodged into my cervical esophagal area.  I had an egd, they said they could see where the pill had irritated my esophagus.  Then I started getting tonsil stones, which of course my esophagus was still healing from the irritation.  On two occassions, I had coughed up a tonsil stone, that got stuck on my gag reflux area of my throat, at which time very forcefully I threw up,  at which time the tonsil stone dislodged and fell back down my throat.  I had this fit happen twice in two weeks.  Then about 2 weeks later, discovered, that on my right side of my throat right around the hyoid area, theres a big  sized lump.  Im generally more tired, achy, and notice myself clearing/coughing rather I swallow saliva, or water.  I had a barium swallow test, before this coughing fit, to make sure my esophagus area was healing from the pills being lodged there.  I had a ct scan done this a.m. and am awaiting the results.  I can't hardly sleep, I cant get comfortable.  I do notice however, that once asleep, my throat seems to be a little ok, until I awake, then the coughing/cleaning, soreness, and tenderness occurs.  When Im eating it takes me alot to gulp down the food.  Im on a soft diet, and am not eating anything spicy.  I have also notice, that when I bend down ,that it seems as though I get an instant headache.  Anyone else with this problem?  Thanks for any info, or insight..  big hugs, okie gal

Hello,

I am currently talking with my ENT doctor about Resuspending my hyoid bone. He took my CT scan and said that he would email me if he could do the surgery. So, I am waiting for his answer.

Anyway, the bottom line is that
"DO NOT excise or remove your hyoid bone."
Hyoid bone is ESSENTIAL for normal body function, such as breathing, swallowing, speaking, and total balance of the body.
I assure the you guys also have the feeling of unbalance for the neck and face; suppose that you cut the portion of your hyoid bone.
It would worsen the feeling of unbalance and the other symptoms.
That is, RESUSPENDING or RECONSTRUCTING the dislocated bone is the only way to fix this problem. I am waiting for my doctor's answer.
So, once again, "DO NOT listen to any doctor who insist that he or she should cut the dislocated bone. DO NOT !!!!!
I really hope and pray that this post would help you guys.

P.S: my ENT physician is Dr. Robert Ward. He is at Cornell University.
Even if he is at Pediatrician Department, he deals with the hyoid        bone dislocation. So, if it is hard for you guys to wait for my result, you could try to contact him by yourselves.

I live in Oklahoma, and the ENT doctor, told me I do not have a thyroglossal duct cyst.. so Now im at square one.  The best would to be removal, they remove only the center of your hyoid, where the tract/branch that feeds the remnants of the duct.  Its a quite easy operation from what Ive been told.  Great recovery time, and not alot of pain associated, other than about a 3 inch scar.  good luck, and let us know how things go..  sincerely, okiegal

Hello, I also have the same problems with you guys. Then, I read the posts by lulin4.
she said that she found two doctors in Manhattan, NY; One recommended to resuspend the hyoid bone, whereas the other suggested excision of the bone. I really want to know the doctor who recommended to resuspend. Is there anyone who gets in touch with lulin4? I sent a message to her, but she did not answer.
If any of you knows the doctor's name or keeps in touch with lulin4, I really hope to let me know. Thank you.

Im so excited.. finally found out that I was right..  Its a 9x6x5mm nodular structor at site of previously suspectedabnormality.  Lies at the base of the tongue just above the hyoid bone.  It follows signal charateristics equal to that of CSF.  Conclusion of radiologist.  Small well defineted structure midline at base of tongue above hyoid,  follows signal characteristics similar to that of fluid.  I suspect a small thyroglossal duct cyst.  The ENT office thank god for them,  got me a sooner date.  July 6th.  Will update as to what will be done. I know they will have to do the sistrunk surgery.. just not sure if I will feel good afterwards. At this point,  I just want the darned thing out.  Hugs to all, okiegal

Ok yet another update.. on friday night.. I was getting on my bed  and turned and cleared my throat, yet again, and mustve tweaked something.  Ended up in the ER, yesterday, Sunday  They found out I tore a muscle in my hip/buttock area, and its pinching my sciatica.. and then the doctor ordered thyroid panel to see if this mass is related to my thyroid, which came back normal, and also ordered an MRI, for my throat, to see what type of mass, this thing is..any ideas?  In the ct scan, they couldnt see any defintion, of the mass, so they want to see if with MRI they can see what type of mass it is, rather its fluid filled, solid etc.. anyone else having this problem, or had this problem, and what did they discover?  Please just pray for me,  this is getting me down, and Im down to eating chicken broth, ensure, and water..  Im now down to 105, was 109 in beginning of april..Sincerely, okiegal

Just an update.. received my ct scan..I have sphenoid and bilateral maxillary sinus disease.. deviated septum to the left.  a couple small 4 to 5 mm nodules in the lower poles of both thyroid lobes.  There is a bague 16 x 10 mm suble lowe density area in the midline just above the hypid bone at the base of the genioglossus masculature .  They suspect possible thyroglossal duct cyst.  they say an mri might show rims etc..  I have all the symptoms of the duct cyst.  The mass in hard to the touch, and is affecting my swallowing and my breathing more each day.  Why do I feel like I cant catch my breath.  Im also having tiredness, and achiness as well.  Anyone else out there with the same situation or problem. I have to wait 4 weeks before seeing an ent.  My regular doc wont order an mri, because legally he cant, since he referred me to the ent, and the ent is booked solid til my appt on the 19th of july.  What would warrant another ER visit.  Im also getting tonsil stones on top of everything else.  The Ct also showed calcification from the tonsil stones, on my tonsilar/adenoid beds.  Thanks for any help.. okiegal
