sinus surgery and deveated septum

sinus surgery and deveated septum

Ok as most other question on here, I am 28 male, who has had bad sinus trouble for about 10 years now. Where i live there isn;t much choice in doctors, not that we have bad health care,  its just a small spot, ( prince edward island, canada) So I have been on every nose spray/pill/ anything u can think of, nothing works. I was told i need surgery, I have been so scared I have put it off 3 times now in the last few years.  But I have finially stepped up and decided its time.
I cant breath, smell or taste and i get sinus headaches that take over my life.
My doctor says my polyps are the worse he has seen, totally full in all my sinus cavities.
So what I have been reading is that the packing is the worse part and many people seem to get sinus infections easier now?
My surgery is in 2 days (dec, 13/07) and I am going on vaction Jan. 1/08.
Does anyone have any advice on if it is really worth the trouble and is it safe to remove the packine nt day. I was thinking about asking the doctor to take it out. he said its going to be in there for a few days, I dunno as u can tell, this is chance number 4 and i think i am starting to chicken out 2 days before the big day..  I need advice asap

PEI has good mussels though!

surgery helps many people clear the ostia (hole at the bottom of the sinus that drains the mucous out)

a ct scan can show if the ostia are blocked.  ask your doctor for proof that the surgery will help, such as the CT Scan results.

If your polyps are completely filling your sinuses and nasal cavities, surgery is the only useful option.  Polyps have a high recurrence rate and you will likely need to be on medications for maintenance after surgery.  Common medications are steroid nasal sprays, Singulair, and occasionally oral steroids and antibiotics.  If you already can't smell and breath, the packing after surgery might not feel that much different than you do now.  Good luck with your surgery.

Well as for the pain was bearable because all the pain i had with my adenoidectomy was horrible i had some teeth pain not too bad my biggest problem was breathing through my mouth because that drip pad was under my nose and could not breathe and stupid me tried to eat hard food the very next day and cut inside my throat so my throat bled for 3 days the stints came out on monday wow those are uncomfortable and big and then they suctioned blood from my nose and got these big blood clots that looked like pieces of liver gross. i have been resting last couple days being lazy i have noticed now a lot dry crusty blood in nose now do you have this names r taken  well i got my inferior and middle turbs cut now i am worried about empty nose syndrome oh please i hope i dont have that i am trying not to jump to conclusions but i am still healing so i dont know if i have that or not and if i do then i am out of luck which all i have is bad luck anyway  because i know people say dont get your turbs cut but you should see my pictures the difference in breathing room because of my turbinates and deviated septum no wonder i couldnt breathe the doctor gave me pictures inside the nose during the operation. so i am thankful for not a lot of pain and no dizzy and no throwing up after surgery but i am still not sure on the end result yet.   how are you feeling names r taken?  is your nose dry inside?  keep in touch thanks for asking about me:)
