I'm home now with incredibly swollen tonsils and puss covering both sides of my throat. My symptoms too came on extremely quick. I had body aches and my skin and muscles were so sensitive yesterday that even breathing was uncomfortable. I also had a fever and chills.
The doctor ran a preliminary step test, which was negative, but he is treating it as if it is strep (antibiotics, rinsing with warm salt water, etc.)
As far as breaking my fever, there is one remedy that has always worked; a spicy tomato-based vegetable soup. It may sound strange, but my great grandma sweared that red pepper and whiskey helped her and her siblings stave off the spanish influenza.
First start by putting olive oil and a heaping tablespoon of diced garlic into a pan (don't let it brown all the way, as garlic is more nutritional prior to cooking down.)
1 or 2 cans of vegetarian vegetable soup (tomato based)
now add red pepper, tobasco sauce, worchestire sauce, black pepper, and salt.
(sorry if my spelling is off... as I said, I really feel awful.)
Initially, the smell might be pungent but it tastes amazing, it packed with antioxidants, and is guaranteed to make you sweat... which is the best way to break a fever.
If it doesn't interact with your antibiotics, sip a shot of whiskey while eating the soup...
Works every time.
Feel better!
I'm kind of in the same boat. I've been feeling fine, and then on mon I came home with my entire body aching and my throat killing me. When I looked in my throat, it was red and swollen and I had an ulcer right at the top. I would have left it at that, but when i woke up on tues i had stuff oozing out of my tonsils on the right side. Up to this point I hadn't run a feever yet. So I went to the doc. Neg strep and so he just gave me an anti-biotic for what he is calling tonsilitis. By noon yesterday, I started having chills and then a fever. The fever keeps coming back and now the other side of my throat is getting painful and has stuff oozing out of it. Even without swollowing I know I am in pain because it is constantly throbbing. It hurts sooooooooooo bad.
Hi
ok, I stopped prilosec about three weeks ago. Then I caught a stomach virus which caused nausia and gagging. Once it subsided I got a sore right inner ear and then the top right hand side of my throat swellled. This was really painful, so I went to th dr and she gave me a zpac. Two days later I went to the er, I work at a hospital , they told me I had fluid behind my ear and to take Benadryle. My ear drained and the swelling has started to go down. I was tested for strep, mono, and some other virus everything was neg accept she said my white count was a little high, looked viral to her.
But now my throat still sore and there are two white pimples on the upper right side. What is this?
throat sore when swallowing and had fever during the night....don't have insurance...how often should I gargle?
what remedies will help
If you have had a really bad flu or grind your teeth or have neck pain, then the infection and soreness is probably because you have a middle ear infection.
Blocked ear drainage creates backteria and puss from the middle ear infection. The puss will sting your throat, tongue and mouth. If left untreated, you will experience all kinds of body aches as the infection spreads through your entire body. Some people develop Arthritis.
Antibiotics will not cure a middle ear infection, but they will clear up the infection in your mouth and throat. See a Head and Neck Dr. right away.
thanks for your response.
it could very well be strep as i have spent all day online researching the posibilities visa vie the symptoms .. but in truth, seems like it could be 3-4 other things based on my recent activies.
one thing about the body aches .. i havent had the flu lately .. in fact in more than half a year .. so its highly doubtful that the body aches are being caused by that .. but its also possible that the body aches are being caused by something altogether different.
thanks anyway
Hi,
Sounds like two different things are going on.
Your throat sounds like it is infected. You sound have it tested for strep so that you can get on antibiotics and portect your heart in case that is the case. If it is not strep you can tough it out or take anti-biotics to have it go away. If you want to tough it out use Chlorasceptic and ibuprofen to help the pain. Rinsing with warm salt water also helps. It is frustrating since it hurst when you swallow and you probably want to swallow a lot because of the swelling (horrible cycle).
The body aches sound a bit like a residual flu. Often people get the flu (viral) and end up with a secondary
bacterial infection (sore throat) directly after it.
Hope it helps and get lots of rest.
