white tongue especially like in your case is very normal,
i noticed it on myself around 3 mos back, thinking the worse, i indeed took antibiotics, you just have a normal white looking tongue, your son has it too huh, yeah i stoped freaking out when i noticed my son had it too. 2 docs looked at it and said it was normal. the filliform papillae are a little enlarged and are white i presume the rest is pinkish,i noticed after i eat, its not noticable,or when i drink big red it stains red.lol.

If this is what you are talking about, nothing to worry about: http://www.doctorspiller.com/hairy_tongue1.htm

This has happened to me, as well. Now, I don't know if this helped/solved the problem but 1) I did find drinking more water helped. Not long ago, I had this in a bad way. There were a few things I was doing differently, when it began to completely disappear and I can't help but wonder if it helped. That being, I was taking pepto bismuth (tablets) for about 2 weeks before bed. Whoa...woke up with black tongue! Found out that Pepto can do this. During the day, I was also drinking 1 glass of fresh squeezed lemon juice (no sugar) in a full glass of water.

About a week later, noticed my tongue changing and so, began to to scrape my tongue after brushing my teeth. Low and behold, the "hairy" papillae began to easily fall off.
Weird but I was happy to see a clear tongue.

Now, I DO NOT KNOW if either Pepto or the lemon juice helped. Perhaps it was coincidental, I don't know.

Since then, when I see my tongue whitening, I begin to drink more water...and I haven't had this happen since.
