tonsils

My daughter, 22 years old had her tonsils removed Monday.  She has chills at night and this morning, Friday, her temp is 101.  Her throat is swollen, but is able to swallow without pain.  There is no bleeding.  What can we do, other than forcing more liquids?

I would get examined by a physician.  A temp of 101 is over 100.4 which doctors consider to be a real fever.

Fever and swollen throat after tonsillectomy is concerning for a secondary infection, but it could be a normal part of healing as well.  Fever sometimes comes when collapsed parts of the lung are reinflating after surgery.  Inflammation is always a part of healing, the question is your daughter's within normal or not.

Tylenol is helpful for bringing down a fever.
