tracheal malaysia

My boyfriend's niece has Cystic Fibrosis and has been in and out of the hospital for the past two months 5 times.  She is 12 months old and has recently been choking on all of her food, not matter how small or how soft.  She turns blue and her mother calls the ambulance.  She has ridden in an ambulance 4 or 5 times now because of  choking. The hospital checks her, keeps her a few days then sends her home.  About three months ago, when she first starting choking she had a really bad episode and her oxygen levels wouldn't go back up, so the did a bronchioscope and found a lemon seed in her lung.  So now she has been in the hospital 2 weeks because of her oxygen levels again and they've done heart tests, xrays, reflux tests but don't know what's wrong.  She has a really loud barking cough that they say is from tracheal malaysia, they have finally come to the conclusion that this is causing her to inhale her food into her lungs because it is too soft.  Now they want to put a feeding tube in through her belly until her throat gets stronger.  But how long will she have this feeding tube, 2, 3 years??
