white nasal mucus

I have had an awful virus for the past two weeks and as well as chest problems my head feels full and clogged, and there is a pressure in both ears and on the sides of my face just in front of my ears. My nose continually blocks, and I feel dizzy when i blow my nose or cough strongly. The last two days I feel 'giddy' all the time. I use a saline nasal flush and it clears heaps of slimy thick mucus out of both nostrils but the mucus is white - almost the colour of milk. I've never seen this before; usually it's grey or yellow because i have chronic sinusitis.
Why is it white - does anybody know? the flush is just saline water. I'm a bit worried about it being white in case it's connected with my balance/ear problems?
