white patches on tonsiles and i cant swallow, not strep

tonsils have white patches on them, as well as some on my tongue and cheeks, i went to doctor and he tested for strep it was negitive, also, tested white blood cells, they were normal with no elevation.  been running a fever of 102-103 and cant swallow. the pain in swalling is so severe, i find myself drooling just so i dont have to swallow, dont know what is wrong and what to do.  it has been 9 days and is progressivily getting worse, i cant eat because i cant swollow and so i am very weak, almost to the point of not being able to get out of bed.

Could perhaps be Infectious mononucleosis. Mono. Your doctor should give you some type of antibiotic to help. Gargling with salt water or using lozenges can help with the pain.

My daughter has the exact same symptoms, except she doesn't have patches on her tongue or cheeks.  Her strep test was negative.  She has fever 102-103.  Her doctor contated a disease specialist and he said there is another bacteria that mimics strep.  It's called arcanobacterium.  Ask your doctor about it.  Our doctor never heard of this bacteria until today and said discovering this knowledge today will help future children.They are treating my daugher with zithromax.  We're hoping to see improvement soon.
