Could this be an infection?

For a few months now, I've felt immense pressure in my left temple.  It's not constant and doesn't appear to have any pattern to it.  Just every so often, it feels like my head is going to explode, then the feeling is gone a few seconds later.  When I told my doctor about it, he asked if I had any sinus symptoms such as a runny/stuffy nose.  When I said no, he wrote it off as stress/anxiety.  The problem with that is the symptoms will occur at any time, not just stressful moments.  So, I guess my question is, can you have a sinus infection without the typical symptoms?

Absolutely. Sinus infections can present in any number of atypical presentations. A complete exam and work up is your best best.
