Flapping sensation after Deviated Septum Surgery

Flapping sensation after Deviated Septum Surgery

I had surgery to correct my deviated septum about 3 years ago.  Everything was going great until today. I woke up with laryngitis and a bad cold.  When I try to blow my nose I get this strange flapping sensation inside my nose.  Pardon me if this gets a little gross but, when I try to blow my nose I can hear and feel the congestion inside my sinuses but nothing or very little comes out. I have tried using the saline spray with added Alcolol with it.  That seemed to let me get a little more productive discharge.

When I breathe in I feel somewhat of a blockage (also can feel that flapping sensation).
When I go to breathe out I feel it abit too.

I remember my ENT doctor telling me it was not a good idea to really blow your nose real hard because that can cause the congestion to go back into the eye area.  I already had 2 of those eye infections..not fun.

I just am not one of those people that can snort this congestion to the back of my throat and then hock it out (like the doc wanted me to do during recovery from that surgery.)

Please help me.  I am so scared to go back to my ENT  (he is very nice...I am just so scared of that big probe they use.)

Thanks,
SJ

Upper respiratory infections can lead to congestion that may be difficult to expel.  Conservative care with hydration, saline spray and decongestants (if you can take them) can help until the cold resolves.  If the flapping sensation and congestion continues you should be evaluated by your ent.
