How do I prevent an attack of tonsilitis?

I am a 33 year old woman.  I usually suffer from tonsilitis.  In 2005 it was so bad that it took me over 2 weeks to heal.

In 2007 I had an attack again, and I was put on PP injections for 5 days. Now my throat feels so dry especially in the night.  I am not ready for another attack as they are very painful.  Please advice on what I can take to prevent another recurrence.

Salt water gargles after eating will often help, but sometimes the tonsils become the source of infection and require removal. More than 6 infections per 6 months requires a visit to the ENT.
