Addiction to Salt

Addiction to Salt

I eat healthy. I mainly eat baked chicken, fish and lots of veggies. I like fruit too. I think that I eat healthy proportions as well. But, when I eat I have to have A LOT of seasonings, salt, lemon juice and vinegar. I go though a salt shaker in about 3 days. When I pour the salt on my food, I don’t shake it I just hold it upside down and put a thick layer over everything on my plate. I will not eat if I don’t have salt, its just plan not enjoyable. My mother and my friends are very concerned. I have never seen anyone eat salt like I do, and neither has anyone that I know. I drink LOTS of water all day to make up for it. Actually water is the only thing I do drink.
I have asked both my doctors about this. What is wrong with me? Does my body have a deficiency in something? Will this affect me in the future? Both doctors show no concern and said since I do not have high blood pressure that it is fine for me to continue eating salt the way that I do. Is this right?

Your doctors know more about the long term effects than I do, so I would listen to them. Its hard to believe that the amount you describe has anything much to do with taste since with that much salt you can't taste any other flavor.  How long has this been going on, do youhave other addictive behavior....its not a common addiction to the degree you describe, so you would have to work with some professional to sort out why you do this, and what emotional purpose it solves.
