Bulimia - 9 months into Recovery

by davidalanhunter1986, May 18, 2009 03:40PM
I was bulimic for a long time, since stopping i feel 100% better, as much as i would like to put my eating disorder behind me, i feel like i cant because im  being constantly reminded with my swollen glands on my face (parotids) they are not painful and not hot, they are just there and usually always swollen. i've read in a few places that this can take time to correct but 9 months is a long time. It gets me down from time to time because it means i dont go out and i put my life on hold because of it. any suggestions of words of wisdom? i dont think i could deal with this being permanant

I don't know how long the parotids take to heal, but going back to your bulimia is not the anwser. It certainly won't help. It great you feel better, and just because you face is a little swollen, dont' let it define you.
Sorry to ask, but i am also bulimerexic, and i'm not sure, but what exactly are parotids, adn what are they from?

I would never go back to bulimia! Not now, i much prefer being 'normal'

the parotids are the big glands on your face, so when they swell you look like a chipmunk, which is where the term 'chipmunk cheeks' comes from.

my doctor has prescribed me pills that neutralizes the acid in your stomach, as he was under the impression that my esophageal sphincter might be letting acid get into my throat. However, when i first started recovery i would get acid all the time from fruit juice etc. but i never get it now. so i'm hoping thats healed itself.

i have read online, and there are a few cases of the glands taking months to go down. I just hope its not permanant
