Bulimia Effects

How long do you have to binge/purge until side effects REALLY show up? I threw up only once or twice a month for the past two(ish) years but when I got into college it started happening more often. Over the past month and a half or two months it's been an almost daily thing... sometimes more than once every day. I've stopped doing it now though. I guess my main question is whether or not I was doing it long enough to have serious effects on me.

hii,
side effects are different to every person, but if you ever had throataches or trouble speaking clearly it was indeed damaging your body. You could indicate problems by a bad breath, pain in your throat, heavy headaches after purging, purple spots between your eyes and eyebrows....
Hearing your story it was enough to see some of these effects, if you didn't, it could be that you're just a kind of lucky that you don't have so much complications.,..

Ive been throwing up daily for about a yr. My side effects are terrible. I have acid reflux so bad sometimes that the pain causes me to pass out, and my teeth are eroding at the back. I wish I cud stop but I cant, I wish I cud go to the dr but I darent. Im really scared im doing myself permanent damage but feel its all spiralled out of control. If u can, dont start again now uve stopped. Ur clearly strong :)

the first and foremost question i have to ask you is ? are you looking to recover from bullemia or just enjoying the satisfaction of what you feel afterwards. i havent had any severe side effects aside from my throat being swollen with my glands afterwards and severe abdominal distention and pain. but my teeth started to erode. by the whole key is to stop throwing up. it messes up your heart, stomach, liver, kidneys by screwing up your electrolytes. and eventually death. it sounds like and correct me if i am wrong that stress is a big key factor with you, you are in college and that is a major stressor. Eating disorders are caused by stress and anxiety and whatever happened in our lives when younger. are you seeking counseling?? you have to try to identify what triggers your bullemic episodes and work from there. you dont want to have to wait to see what the long term affects will be. do you??

i agree with healthgal42, ive suffered with ed with  most of my life, still struggling.  it is not really know on time of b/p before side effects,  i have had many from years of it.  i lost my top real teeth because of bulimia, also bad urinary tract infections because of dehydration and laxative abuse, i am scared to find out internal damages that i may or may not have due to the years of the bulimia.  No insurance so kind of stuck there.  there is an underlying illness that the eating disorder is a symptom of, depending on the person is to what that illness is, but it goes alot deeper than losing weight, dieting, and food.
