Bulimic and lump in throat and extremly painful to swallow

Hi Everyone,
This is my first post.  I have been bulimic for close to ten yrs now (im 26).  I have had treatment and also several months of recovery, always followed by a relapse.  Lately, I have felt a lot of pain in my throat after purging.  Over the past few days it has felt like there is a lump in my throat, making it very painful to swallow anything.  I have not purged in for a few days but the pain is getting worse.  I'm not sure if this is related to my ED or if is something completely different.  If any of you have experienced this would you please share?

Thanks!

I can almost guarantee it is something related to ED. Purgeing for 10 years can do many things to your body, as I'm sure you've heard many times, including scarring your esaphagus. The fact that you've stopped purgeing and the pain is getting worse is a sign that you should see a doctor as soon as you can. At a certain point, scarring may result in strictures-narrowing at certain points in the esaphogus, which can make it difficult to swallow. This can certainly feel like a lump in your throat and if during a purge you cause one of the strictures or scars to rip, very painful as well. There is treatment, but it involves stopping purgeing, and undergoing an endoscopy. In the meantime your doctor may be able to at least prescribe you something to ease your symptoms. Cold liquids may help, or if warm works for you. I trully wish you the best of luck. I'm a recovering anorexic and bulimic of 10 years, and have been in recovery for a year now. I found the only thing for me was to work a 12 step program. :)
