Have I got a Eating Problem...?

I'm unsure whether I might have a eating problem?
I've been eating more and less, so my habits have gone out of wack.
I barely eat lunch and my breakfast is quite small now....
Should I do something???

So sorry for the late post, violet. I just saw it on here. I know from experience that exam stress is enough to make you not eat, for sure! That, mixed with depression, certainly does not help. Sounds like the stress and depression are the main reasons for not eating. However, with that said, low self-esteem is usually a breeding ground for the start of an eating disorder. Let me commend you on recognizing that you are having issues eating, right away and reaching out to this forum!

It's extremely difficult to eat while being stressed. However, try something light first. Healthy snack foods are great while you study and you can graze on them to get some nutrition. For example: carrot sticks, celery, salad, popcorn, fruit, etc. If you find that you do not want to eat in fear of weight gain or how you look in a pair of jeans, etc. then you may want to get some help for the onset of an eating disorder. If not, then definitely talk to your health care provider about your depression.

Sometimes, when we are under a lot of stress, such as exams, we may need a higher dose of medication or more therapy to get us through. I was just beginning to recover from my eating disorder when I started college. I was lucky to have had a wonderful therapist that helped me through all of my four years. I always had to see her more often around exam time, just to beef up on the coping skills.

I, too, had suffered from low self-esteem and still struggle with it from time to time. Therapy does wonders with this. For exams, I would use meditation and visualization. So, I would meditate in between study and I would visualize myself, acing that particular exam. I would then repetitiously tell myself "I know this stuff" or "I'm an expert". Sometimes, I'd have to look myself in the mirror as an affirmation. I know it sounds silly and may be difficult at first. I know it was for me. However, it worked!

Keep posting on your progress. Keep a journal and monitor your moods and feelings towards stressors and food. This will help your therapy sessions. I hope this helps and always here for your support:)
