How long does the refeeding process take?

by MissLizzy, May 24, 2009 12:11PM
Hello,

I became anorexic at age 12, and was diagnosed with chronic anorexia nervosa at age 13.  I am now 25 and have been in recovery for 10 months.  I did alot of damage to my digestive track, although all of it has not been thoroughly worked up.  I have a question: this is rather embarassing....I still have alot of trouble digesting food.  I am lactose intolerant and do not eat dairy, and also avoid red meat.  I seem to often have chronic diahrea.  Is this cause for concern?  I eat very very healthy, and am wondering why this still occurs.

Does anyone know how long the refeeding process typically takes?  When should I expect this to go away?
Thanks

Hi Lizzy

Congratulations on your recovery!

If you have chronic diahrea, yes, that can be a problem, because you can get severely dehydrated. I'm not a doctor and don't know the ins and outs of how your digestive track will heal, but you say it hasn't been thoroughly worked up. Are you seeing a doctor or specialist on a regular basis? They should be following this process and they would be the ones to inform about your continuing problems.

Unfortunately, no.

I am 25 and work 7 days a week as a live in nanny, but do not have health insurance.
I really cant afford to accrue any more medical bills.

Oh and thank u!

If you continue to have a problem you might consider going to a free clinic.

By the way I think working 7 days a week is illegal! You really need some time for yourself, especially in early recovery. Just my opinion.

And you''re welcome.
