Lap Band

Lap Band

I had lap band surgery about 2 years ago.  I have lost over 100 pounds.  I exercise 4-5 times a week for approximately 90 minutes.  I do cardio, water aerobics, wt. training, spinning, yoga, body pump, and "boot camp" training.  My biggest problems continue to be that I still use food as my drug of choice and have a problem feeling satisfied when I can't eat enough to medicate my pain.  I take antidepresessents but I have been overweight ALL my life and this battle won't be easily conquered.  I still throw up frequently.  Lastly, I CRAVE ice cream and chocolate.  Prior to the surgery my biggest love was for salty foods.  Not that I didn't love sweets (who doesn't) but it wasn't my biggest optiscal.  Any ideas, help, encouragement or help out there?

Unfortunately, the surgery does nothing for an eating disorder. Everyone with an eating disorder someone inside has the belief that " life will be perfect"  if they lose weight. It's that belief that is part of the disorder. My suggestion would be to get a referral to a therapist experienced in eating disorders. OA is also a wonderful support for people with all sorts of eating disorders. The cravings for sugar are both physical and psychological. You have to address both aspects and the only way to stop the physical addiction is to entirely eliminate sugar from your diet; after about 30 days it will get easier. If you eat it " now and then"  you are just keeping the physical craving alive. If you think you can't live without sugar, I haven't eaten sugar for 16 years. The first 30 days are by far the hardest. Good luck to you at finding the right support and treatment.
