My friend is too skinny

I think my friend is anorexic. In her family it is awkward, she is very fussy with food and gets no dinner every night. She could get some round her nan's next door but chooses not to. She does not think she is fat but at 16 she weighs under 7 stone. Her mum (who doesn't help the problem in the slightest) has told my mum that my friends periods have been all over the place and not following a normal pattern. She knows she is welcome to have food round my house. Though she doesn't eat proper meals ever she eats a lot of crisps and sweets. When we go in town I get lunch and if she "remembers" she has a small cheese and onion pasty and later a small chocolate milkshake. Whenever I've brought up her size she just says that it's because her mum doesn't feed her and tells me that she's not as thin as some people who are definitely underweight. She is a very vain person: she wears lots of make up, tight clothes and to her any male attention she enjoys, maybe this is partly the cause?  If you're still reading this could you please tell me if this is anorexia or not, because she doesn't even realise the way some people look at her like she's a walking skeleton.

Anorexia can't be diagnosed at a distance. Your friend may have an eating disorder like anorexia, or something else may be behind the eating behavior you're seeing. Her weight of 7 stone (98 lbs. for non Brits) may be anything from very skinny to light, depending on her height and frame. Your description makes her family situation seem to be a possible cause for your friend's weight and eating behavior. Your friend would have to see a doctor, ideally an eating disorder specialist, to see about a diagnosis of anorexia.

Thank you for the advice. My friend is around 5'3 but she does not look naturally like that as some girls do.
