Pooping Blood

Pooping Blood

Ok im worried,
My boyfriend of 31 years old, this morning pooped blood. Iv have said to him he needs to see a doctor but he refuses (he told me god will take him when he wants him) so i kind of need to be the doctor. I asked if he'd eaten somthing diffrent and he said no. But iv noticed he drinks very often (maybe at least 1 everynight) some nights he will say his hungry but then go's to eat but says noo beer will fill him up (his stomach gets bloated and looks like his pregnant lol). he eats like 1 meal a day. and smokes maybe 2 packs a day. I dont know if any of this have somthing to do with it. He is a very hard working guy, very stressed lately (a manager of a resort) starts work in between 12pm and 3pm (depends how busy) and dont get home till in between 1am-3am. and when he gets home he will either drink till dawn or sleep till he has to be at work. He also takes tablets for depression and bipolar. Do you have any idea why he pooped blood?? maybe his lifestyle? Do you have any idea how i can help this? And what i should do/get him?
Many Thanks

You are right to be worried and you are right to tell him he needs to see a doctor; pooping blood is a serious sign something is wrong.  But my guess is that the problem has to do with his drinking and he knows that. He is in the denial that is so common to alcoholics. Depending on what medications he is on he may also be having a problem related to them. Has he mentioned this problem to the doctor who prescribes his medication? He needs to do that; hopefully he already has an honest relationship with that person and will tell them.

My concern is as much for you as for him. You are worried, understandably, but you are trying to control something you have absolutely no control over. Have you ever heard of Alanon? It is a program for partners of alcoholics and will give you people to talk to who understand what you are going through as well as give you some ideas how to deal with things. Just look in the phonebook. Best of luck to you.
