Hi Selma,
Sorry for the late reply.  I have taken it off and on for 6 yrs.  It's one of those luv it or hate it meds.  I do well on it except I never have gotten used to the tired feeling it gives me.  It is good at night; good during the day if it's a low dose.

I was once dx'd with IBS but I don't really think that's the case so I really cannot say anything about the med. along that line BUT I cannot take tylenol or NSAIDS without GI upset and this medicine does not cause that or GERD.  Hope this helps.

I have been taking Nuerontin.  It doesn't upset my tummy.

I don't have the restless legs on a regular basis....the other poster seemed to have the issue and I mentioned that the Dr at the sleep clinic I went to asked me if I had it, and I am assuming they treat that as well as sleep apnea.....

I have never heard of that med, but good to know.....

I have twitching right now that I feel is low magnesium levels...so, once I get my blood levels checked and a supplement I hope that takes care of it.

Have you tried pregabalin? It will also help with restless legs.
I take a low dose as it tends to give me a dry mouth and constipation even now on 100mg twice a day, I suffer side effects but it calms down my myoclonic jerks and helps a bit with the pain.

Hi Sandy...I was on Gabapentin b4 and found that it affected my IBS issues....and in talking to others it works great in the beginning  and then stops working which could be y they increased her dosage......

I know with chiari I was asked if I had restless legs syndrome...and my sleep clinic Dr was more concerned with that then testing me for sleep apnea.....

Hello Selma -

I haven't been on the site in a while and just noticed your question.

My 29 year old daughter who has EDS and Chiari has been on Gabapentin for pain since the spring and it seems to be helping although the dosage has been increased a few times.  She was previously on Lyrica but the cost and side effects caused her to change.  I've corresponded with another woman in B.C. who has both EDS and Chiari and she swears by Lyrica.

My daughter also has muscle spasms, more of jerking usually when she is trying to get to sleep and has been perscribed Seroquel that she takes at night.

The weather definitely impacts her pain, particularly headaches.

HI thanks for sharing : )

I am on Topamax for HA's and it  does not help my joint pain, and I had some muscle spasms that not even valium and dilaudid helped.

I know weather is a factor in how I feel...it is always a factor in my chiari HA's too.

Type of Joint Pain?
My knees, hips and lower back are the worst and most common (meaning they ache every day). Elbows, left hang fingers, shoulders have their days. The pain varies. Sometimes it is a radiating pain from the inside, sometimes it’s like someone is stabbing me, other times my knees just get really hot/pink and swell.

The joints hurt, but the muscles and bones around the areas radiate with pain too. Over 75% of the time I feel like my body is sore. It’s like when you have a really good work out for the first time your muscles get really sore because they are not used to it. I do yoga every week and every week I feel that way even though I have been doing it for over 6 months. I am no longer able to run because I just couldn’t handle the pain it caused, and I am only 25 years old.

How long does it last?
I have pain all the time. There is never a time where something isn’t aching. When it is really bad it can last as little as 30 minutes (hands) or all day (legs). The bad pain usually it last for a couple of hours and then calms down some.

Does it flare?
There are good days and bad days. I haven’t been able to figure out what exactly triggers it though. I know that exercise usually has negative effects. The days following I will be really sore and feel like I got beat up. Sometimes my legs ache because of the weather (rain, cold), but it’s hit or miss. Even if I don’t exercise and the weather is nice I sometimes get these flare ups of pain.

I started taking 750mg of Nabumetone twice a day 3 months ago, but I don’t think the medication is helping as much as it originally did. I am still having excessive pain and it just is so frustrating. I am going to a specialist (still have a month to go), but does anyone have any suggestions of medications to discuss with my GP until I talk to someone who has a better understanding of what I am going through?
