This patient support community is for discussions relating to endometriosis, fertility/infertility, hormonal treatments, pain management, pregnancy, and surgery.
Hi, my name is Tina and I was dianosed with endometriosis and adenomyosis in 1997. In 1998 I traveled out-of-state to have a hysterectomyHysterectomy Hysterectomy - series by a doctor who specializes in a surgical procedure to irradicate all possible endo. He tacked my ovaries back in and left them so I wouldn't be without my natural hormones.
In 1999 I had one ovary removed due to a cyst by a local ob/gyn. He wanted to immediately put me on HRTHormone replacement therapy, which I refused. I didn't see a point in it because I still had one good ovary. He was very ugly to me about it and said I would suffer many health problems, including cardiovascular disease if I didn't.
Over the past 10 years I have had numerous doctors tell me they thought I should be on HRTHormone replacement therapy for symptoms I was having, and just because of the hysterectomy. This past summer our family doctor tried to put me on estrogen cream due to symptoms he believed are caused by low estrogen. I refused the prescription and told him I wanted a hormone panel done first. If the hormone panel came back saying I was low estrogen, then I would use the cream. My panel came back normal, with my estrogen level being close to high still. He was surprised and agreed that I did not need the estrogen.
11 years after my hysterectomy (and removal of one ovary one year later)...I am still endometriosis free. I am having other health problems that sent me to the ER last week thinking I was having a heart attack. They did a complete cardio work-up with ECG's, Echocardiogram, Stress Test, CT of chest with contrast and my heart is as healthy as can be.
Please be your own advocate when it comes to your health. Be sure your body actually needs what doctors want to give you, and be sure you ask for what you believe your body does need! Find out if you are estrogen dominant after surgery and before you agree to estrogen therapy.
This is a wonderful forum
