Endo Specialist in MD/DC?

Hello all! I've been dealing with what I suspect is endometriosis pain for the past year. A little background - I'm 35, had bad periods as a teen, went on the Depo shot as a young adult and didn't have periods for 5 years, went off the Depo and got pregnant with my 1st soon after, spent the next 5 years either nursing or pregnant with my 3 sons, until last year when the pain started. My regular gynecologist hasn't really been taking my pain seriously and I'd like to see an endo specialist for a 2nd opinion and probably a laparoscopic diagnosis/excision surgery. I've been on birth control pills for about 4 months now but they haven't been helping at all - they've only been giving me unpleasant side effects (like migraines and nausea), and meanwhile my doctor is trying to encourage me to give them a couple more months to "kick in." All the while the pain is getting worse and worse, to the point where I'm barely functioning for 2 weeks out of each miserable cycle (the week of ovulation and the week of my period).

Anyway, I made an appointment with Dr. Burt Littman at the Center for Reproductive Medicine in Rockville, MD next week based on the recommendation of someone in a mother's group I'm in. Does anyone have any positive/negative experiences with him they'd like to share? Or does anyone have any other names in the DC Metro area they'd like to share? Thanks in advance for your help!

Stacy

I had endo excision surgery with Dr. Cindy Mosbrucker ~ she spent 6.5 hours in my pelvis dealing with endo, adhesions, bowel resection and pelvic organ prolapse...I flew several states away to see her as she seemed the most qualified for my extensive situation and I must say she is an amazing surgeon who gave me back my life...I will never be perfect because I have dealt with this endo beast for over 20 years...but I a better then I have been in a LONG time!:)
Seeing an endo excision specialist is key or at least it was for me!;) Just thought I would share this since I have direct experience with one of the mentioned surgeon's!:)

Thanks so much for your quick reply! However, I should have specified that I'm looking for specialists in the Washington DC area, and the ones you listed are for Washington state. Luckily I'm not yet so desperate for help that I need to get on a plane for treatment. ;) Are there any specialists on your list for MD/DC/VA? I prefer MD since that's where I live, but DC and VA aren't too bad of a drive for me either. Or if there's a forum or database you know of where I could search for this info myself could you provide a link? I had a hard time finding a comprehensive list of endo specialists online anywhere - seems like it's all word of mouth.

There is a top specialist located here. I have lots of good things about her.

Dr. Cindy Mosbrucker

Franciscan Women's Health,
11511 Canterwood Blvd.
N. W. Suite 145 Gig Harbor,
WA 98332
T: (253) 530-2955

Specialisation: GYN only
Bowl/urinary tract surgery: Does some bowel/urinary tract work. Is assisted by a colorectal surgeon.

This one I have not heard much about but she is on the list for specialist

Dr. Megan Bird

Legacy Medical Group - Women's Specialities
21810 Willamette Dr.
West Linn, OR, 97068
T: 503 415-4160

Specialisation: GYN only
Bowl/urinary tract surgery: Unknown

Please note: Dr. Bird has been included on the map based on feedback/surgical photos from a patient who had mild endometriosis. We therefore cannot confirm whether her expertise extends to the management of complex cases. It may be, for example, that she can manage cases of mild/minimal endometriosis via excision but patients with complex cases may need to seek out a surgeon with more experience.

I hope that helps
