Endometiosis Myths

by teddybears4ever2, Sep 03, 2009 09:57AM
We've all heard them.  What are some of the oddest ones you have heard?
A few I've heard is:
-Endo is in your head
-It's contagious
-Don't worry it'll go away once you get your next period
I'm sure we've all heard some good ones.

I read that someone thought she could see endo just by looking for it.

That isn't even possible.

It just goes away and will get better on it's own without doing anything.... that people don't understand that it can be a lifelong disease........ where we live with pain off/on/off/on etc....

Endometriosis is caused by untreated STI's.

i was faking it to get attention/ just take this morphine to cover it up/ there is nothing wrong just deal with it. about 19 doctors until i found one that would listen when i was losing my baby

I can sympathize with you.  I had the exact same problem.  I was on death's doorstep when someone finally helped me.  I have never been pregnant, but no one would ever help me.  Good luck with your pregnancy.

yeah faking it to get attention is another one, or it's an excuse to get out of certain things

by dnikki0928, Sep 14, 2009 10:45AM
Yup:
-Faking it for attention
-It's all in my head
-Just b/c you have a family history doesn't mean you have it (which in some sense I guess is true, but not when you have ALL the symptoms!!!)
-You are having so much pain b/c you are skinny - Yeah, WTF???!

UGH! It took 6-7 docs to finally diagnose me and I was diagnosed at age 18 (seeking relief since 13), and ended up losing 1/2 my right ovary and my endo was EVERYWHERE!!! Damned to some of those docs...

It really got bad when I was about 15. I'm now 24 almost 25. I just found out I had a few months ago.
