Endometriosis question?

How does endometriosis grow back when you are using birth control pills continuously, in order words skipping your periods for 3 months and then having a withdrawal bleed.  Is it possible that when having the withdrawal bleed (although periods on the pill are different to normal periods off the pill), is it possible that the withdrawal bleeding period can cause new endometriosis implants to form again over time?

Hi,
I would think that it would be possible , if you are having any menstrual bleeding it is that that causes the endo.

Sorry for my slow reply, but thank you for your answer.  I'm just so frustrated at the moment while waiting to have some tests done because I was diagnosed with endo last year and although I'm on the pill continuously to treat my endo, I started to experience the same pelvic pain and cramping and other exact symptoms I had before my surgery.

Gyn said that he doesn't think it's possible since it's only been 8 months since my surgery and him burning all the endo off and away so has referred me to a GI specialist that is recommending a colonoscopy to check for something GI related.

I'm at my wits end.

Sorry for my vent.  Thanks again. :)

It is very possible that it has grown back that quick. I was in the same boat that is why now i have opted to try another round of Lupron because the pill isnt working. I am so fed up.

I'm thinking more and more with each day that passes that it's my endometriosis that is back because of the pain feeling the exact same way as before.  I had an ultrasound a few weeks ago to check for an ovarian cyst but it came back normal, no cyst.

My gyn said that if the GI specialist I'm seeing in a couple of weeks doesn't find a GI related problem that I may have to have another laparoscopy to see whether it could infact be the endo that's back. So I guess until then I'm just going to have to live with it, as horrible and awful as it is.

I'm sorry to hear that you are going through the same thing.  If I may ask, what stage of endometriosis do you have?  I was diagnosed with stage 2 last year October.

If you ever want to talk or vent, I'm here if you want someone to talk to.

Thanks for your answer.  :)

It helps a little to know there's people out there with the same experiences and know what you are talking about and don't think it's just all in your head.

Your endometriosis can come back in as little as 2 months. Your doctor may not have much experience with treating endo. You may want to find a reproductive encrinologist that specializes in endo. I take continuous BCP's and I never take a break for withdrawral bleeding. I have not bled in over 2 years yet my endo comes back. I have had 3 laps and tried many other treatments. I hate to tell you that despite all of the treatments my endo comes back quickly. I just had my last lap less than 6 months ago and I an having severe pain everyday. I would see another doc with more experience with treating endo.

hi there sorry to hear you are still suffering i had a lap in feb and my gyno said it can & probably will grow back with 6 months so i would go back for a second opinion and see someone else with more experience at least then you wont be suffering as much its bad enough having this disease without people doubting you only you can be the judge of how you feel all the best :-)

I was diagnosed last year with stage IV endo.  I was covered everywhere. My ovarues where wrapped aorund my uterus and I had a rectovaginal nodule that was putting pressure on my rectum so It was so painful to have  aBM.  Also sex has been just painful my whole life and I doubt that I will ever enjoy it and am completely envious of women who have no pain when doing it.  I feel trapped with a disease that has taken over my life.  I cant die from it but i will suffer.  I am taking the Lupron for another 2 months to see what happens but aside from that I am not sure what I am going to do next. I am in pain when i get a period even a breakthough period. I am always bloated and feeling like a fat cow.

Hi, I am 16 and had my endometriosis laproscopic last August. I was put on a contraceptive pill to take continiously. However, I was still having breakthrough bleeding for over 10months. I then got bad bladder troubles. My doctor said that because I was having breakthrough bleeding the pill was obviously not supressing the endo growth enough. He believes I now have endometriosis on/around my bladder. So if you are having breakthrough bleeding I would suggest changing your pill that you are on.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
