How long before diagnosis

by surfgrl, Nov 03, 2009 08:06PM
Hi,
I'm so glad I found this forum.  I have had some crazy symptoms and in doing my research, feel I have endometriosis.  My doctor is hesitant to do the dianostic surgery just yet.  He still wants to wait to find out if my cysts ever go away.  Here's my scenario:
I started out with a small amount of blood in my urine and pain in my lower right abdomen about 6 months ago.  I have a history of kidney stones and went to my PCP to find out if that was the cause.  They tested for UTI and did a pelvic ultrasound but no kidney stones.  My period came a few days later and the pain slowly went away.  I started becoming nauseous during PMS.  The pain returned again, along with the nausea and pain, so I followed up w/my gynocologist.  He ordered an internal ultrasound and they found a blood filled cyst on my right ovary and a larger, simple cyst on my left ovary.  They switched my birth control in hopes that this would help.  I then ended up in the hospital about 2 months later due to extreme pain on my lower right side and vomiting/nausea/diarrhea.  I thought my cyst had possibly ruptured.  However, the CT showed no rupturing of the cyst, and I had an inflamed bowel.  None of my intestinal problems were caused by bacteria, and my follow-up colonoscopy was fine.  This hospital visit happened 3 days before my period.  My pain has since returned and I go for another internal ultrasound in about a week.  The pain seems to flare up right before my period along w/the nausea.
Has anyone else experienced these extreme symptoms with endometriosis?  How long did it take for a diagnosis?
