I'm not sure what to do

I'm not sure what to do

I don't know what to do. I'm not particularly fond of my doctor right now because she ran some tests without explaining to me what they were. When I spoke to the nurse she said they were routine for abdominal pain and some insurance companies won't cover a lap until those tests are done. She can't get me in for an ultrasound until November 16. I really don't want to wait that long. I looked at a couple other clinics and they wouldn't be able to get me in until December. So I feel like I am stuck. Did your doctor run tests for STD's when they were trying to diagnose your endo? Is this really routine? I'm so frustrated right now. Do i need a new doc or should i just tough it out with my current one?

I would be pissed if my doctor did not explain tests she was running. Fine, if they are routine and required, then just tell me that. I would think that tests for PID and such are common, although they were not run on me. Then again, my doctor did not suspect endo and I had a clear 6 cm cyst that was going to come out anyway. But running tests and not explaining is not acceptable. Unfortunately, waiting for the U/S sounds like what you will need to do. I hope you are not in extraordinary pain. It would likely delay you to switch docs now. If you aren't confident in the surgical skills, then don't have her do the procedure; just get your test results transferred. Think about one other thing--some doctors, like many other people, don't have great communication skills. While annoying, if they are a good doctor/surgeon, it might be worth dealing with.

Hope you feel better!

well, I spoke to the nurse and she was kinda rude about it at first. But then she did admit that sometimes docs just call the tests cultures and patients are fine without the explanation. I told her that I don't know what that means so they have to explain things to me. She said that sometimes insurances won't cover a lap unless those tests are done, but I have state insurance and they dont care. So I think that's just a cop out excuse. I told her that they have to treat me like an adult. She paused. then said "I'm sorry, it won't happen again." So, I'm glad I spoke to her and I'm gonna put my foot down and make sure I get what I need. I want to rule out endo first, and if that isn't the problem we'll go from there.

Good for you!! They probably aren't used to people questioning things. I have found that many people don't choose to question; they simply go along with everything the doctor says. I have caught things like drug interactions and other items that my doctor has not. You have to be informed to be the best possible patient!!

Good luck with your treatment!
