L ovary removed

i just came back form the hospital after having my left ovary and fallopian tube removed..I had a dermoid cyst, endometriosis as well as 2 'questionable' blood tests that indicated tumors he didnt say they were cancerous but wanted to be safe. He was origanally going to try to just remove the endometrial tissue but because of the other factors removed the whole thing..I'm 34 years old and would still like to have children and can with my other healthy ovary. My question is , is there going to be hormaonal changes now that that ovary is gone? Do they have to also keep a close eye on my other ovary to? The whole thing is a little bit scary..Feel okay, just sore and really bloated. Any thoughts?

I didn't have endometriosis, but about 12 years ago I had a dermoid cyst and my left ovary and fallopian tube removed. So I might be a bit of help to you.
Everyone is different, and everyone heals differently, but in my case, I healed just fine. It takes quite a few weeks wfter surgery to feel completely normal. They probably told you not to drive for 6 weeks? (they did me) and not to lift anything? (About 4 days after coming home I lifted my dog to stop a dogfight!) Yes I felt it! Yes I shouldn't have....but all was ok.

In my case they didn't know for sure whether the tumor was benign or malignant till they went in and got it out. Dermoids are usually benign. In fact they're really interesting as they contain all the building-blocks of new life.
But there was no recurrence in the other ovary which is healthy, and no bad effects after.

A bloated feeling is common after abdominal surgery. So are things like constipation, tiredness, etc. It should go away gradually.

I just thought I'd help with what I could...but I have no experience of endometriosis, which I suppose complicates things a bit.
Good luck with your recovery anyway!

thanks for your comment..i was sort of rushed out of there and didnt get much pt teaching. One more question, do you know if the dermoid cyst is actually what could have been yours or mine twin? i know its part of an embryo that didnt grow but i wasnt sure exactly how it works..ill google it, just thought id ask anyways. Thanks again!

Your other ovary should take over for the one you had removed - at least with ovulation. There probably will be a slight adjustment period. Don't be afraid to talk with your doctor or one of the nurses in the office and ask them all of your questions. This is a hard time for you and they should give you the answers you need and the expectations for future.  Good luck and feel better.  Oh, if the surgery was done laparscopically, that's why you feel bloated. They put air in and try to get it all out but it gets stuck. It will go away with time.. You may actually get pains in your shoulder area. If you do, swing your arms around - it will help with the gas

Well a dermoid cyst isn't exactly an embryo, it's an ovarian follicle that starts to do it "own thing" and create certain cells which would, if a conception had occurred, create an embryo. It's doing all this slightly crazy growth of its own accord. There are usually skin cells, hair cells, bone cells, etc....all mixed up together. But it just does this on its own!
It sounds weird, I know. But it is rarely if ever cancerous. Just a slightly wacky ovarian follicle!
As for it being a "twin"....well I don't know, but don't think so.
The surgeon who operated on me was thrilled about the ovarian cyst! He thought it was cool! (weird, or what?) He said "It is the closest Science gets to parthenogenesis (virgin conception)"

I had endo, chocolate cysts, blood tickening and tumor on my right ovary and it was removed during the lap more than 5 years ago ( I was 19 years old than). It was impossible to save my ovary, because it was total chaos with wich they faced during the surgery. Before that they have known that my situation is very bad, from the different examinations, but the real facing with the problem was during the lap (these kind of procedures should last one and a half hour in the worst case and mine lasted for five hours!).
So, I was very young when I lost my right ovary. At first, I wasn't aware, because I was still in shock from all that was happening to me, but after a while I faced with the truth - that I have just one ovary left and I am so young and nmever been pregnant...
But the biggest problem in my case was that my left ovary was also problematic. So, I faced with that that I have just one ovary (not so healthy) that must "do all the work". That is so unpleasent to know! Since the lap I was on Yasmin pills, than I had a punctuation done (on my left ovary) and been on Zoladex shots for 6 months (I experienced an early menopause on 22 years of age) and now I am 24, still on Yasmin, and preparing to TTC, because my left ovary can't take it much longer...
So, I was very young when this happend to me, so it was scary and painful. It changed some of my plans, I wasn't always myself, there are bad side-effects... But, it's not so bad, after all, because it's already done and we must deal with it and we must learn how to live with it. We must be well-inforemd about everything, to take care about ourselves... And to share out intimate experience and our fears with our closest people. Life is beautiful, and knowing that you experienced somethin bad, makes you even stronger and you must appreciate life more and to try to enjoy in every moment. It's hard, but sometimes when you suffered, that makes you rpoud of yourself!
Try to understand it like a fact and take care about yourself, beggining with tha choice of food, exercising and smile more often! :-) And, the most important thing. Don't feel "less", because you are "more" with what you passed through.
Hope that my experience helped a little bit.

Take care and try to relax! Have a nice day!

Glad you're doing okay after surgery. It's taken me quite a while to recover (over 8 weeks), but everyone is different. I too had an orange-size cyst removed, as well as my right ovary removed. Your other ovary (so I am told) will take over. I can report that I did experience several weeks of night sweats but now I don't have them so perhaps it takes a few weeks for the body to adjust and the other ovary to take over. The only concern I can think of is a another cyst on your other ovary which would be a concern if you plan to get pregnant and the other ovary had to removed. My doctor put me on birth control, but I had trouble with it, so I can't offer any further advice except to discuss options with your doctor.

Take care.

Hello!  I had a benign 10.5 inch tumor removed from my abdomen in August 2011.  It claimed my left ovary and fallopian tube when it was removed.. Will this cause some menopausal symptoms?  For the past 3 months, I have had profuse underarm persperation, my breast are bigger, I have about a 5lb weight gain and sometimes have hot flashes.  I am 58 years old and now 110 lbs.  Will I continue to gain weight and have the other symptoms.  Thank you.
