Well, I was told 6 months ago I have endometriosis and had a large cyst on my right ovary. I refused to sign the surgery papers immediately, and before I left the dr told me "You have a large cyst that will continue to grow, and twist and burst, and you will be in the ER having the surgery done by a General Surgeon, who would not clean up the Endometriosis like I would." A few days later I'm signing papers consenting to having a cyst removed from my right ovary, adhesions elsewhere, and a possible right ovary removal. What I ended up with on my chart after the surgery was "exploritory laparscopy, scar tissue removal, and pseudo cyst diagnosis"
I had the surgery last week. I wake up to find out through my parents that the only thing the Dr did was remove scar tissue from my appendix scar. The Dr returned my calls two days later and told me everything. She said my right ovary, fallopian tube and bowel are all stuck together with endometriosis adhesions, against like my pelvic wall, which made a PSEUDO cyst, a large mass that looks like a cyst. She told me it was too dangerous for her to remove, I would have ended up with a bowel bag. She apparently couldn't remove any of the other endometriosis either. I said, so I'm no better off then when I went in?? and she said, I removed the appendix scar tissue. Though it will likely grow back.
She couldn't tell me directly what this meant for me. She told me each surgery is going to cause more scar tissue, making things worse. She told me I want to have children before having surgery again, if I want them.
Is this normal?? Shouldn't surgeons be capable of unsticking organs? Isn't that a normal endometriosis complication?
I also feel very misled. I would not have had this degree of surgery if she had said, "I want to go in and look laparscopically to see IF you have a cyst, and while I'm at it put in 2 other incisions so I can remove some appendix scar tissue." !!
I had the surgery because I was told I had a threatening cyst on my ovary that needed to be removed ASAP.
Now I am off of work , not lifting more than 5lbs for a month, etc, for what I feel was NOTHING because I will still be sick and have the same pains. My stomach is swollen, hard and brusied, extremely so on the right side where she removed the appendix scar tissue.
