My Lap is in 2 weeks

Hi everyone,

I'm getting my first lap on the 20th and I'm starting to wonder about how I will be feeling afterwards.  Is anyone willing to share their recovery?  I'm kind of nervous!

Thank you.  I'm glad you're feeling ok and I hope I have similar circumstances.  Please keep me updated on how everything progresses!

I just had my first laparoscopy this morning!  I woke up from surgery in a little bit of pain, but the morphine took care of it pretty well.  It took me about 2.5 hours to recover from the anesthesia and get discharged.  Now I've been home for about 7 hours and I'm feeling pretty good (with the help of a little oxycodone).  I've got some achy shoulder pain but it's not bad.  Other than that, I have some cramping and bloating due to the gas and a little bit of pain in the lower abdomen/pelvic area, but it's nothing compared to the worst of endometriosis pain!

Make sure to ask the doctor or nurses any questions that come to mind, and be prepared for some discomfort, but I wouldn't say it's really painful.

Good luck!  If you have any other questions I can keep you updated on what to expect as I recover in the next few days.

Thank you all.  My doctor is writing me out of work for a week.  I'm excited and hope this will work for me.  I have a ton of pillows and will pick up a heating pad.  Plus I may make my husband get me a hotel room to protect me from the dogs and cat!

I think you'll be fine- I;ve had two laps. You will probably get prescribed a painkiller for the first couple of days and I would take it. You'll have some cramping and the bleeding will last for a few days but I didn't find either of my recoveries that painful. Heating pads are great too. Just rest up and let us know what the DR finds- good lyuck.

It really all depends on the surgeon and what they do while they are inside.

The first day is usually painful however if not much was done it will be limited pain. The first week you get shoulder pain from the gas so you will have to try to walk around to get it out.

It takes about 2 weeks to recover and go back to work if there are no complications.

Bring a pillow with you to the hospital for the ride home so that you don't feel the bumps in the road so much
