There is no cure for Endo and a hysterectomy will only put you into surgical menopause and I am telling you from experience you do not want to go down that road.
If you have not been diagnosed yet please see an endo specialist and have a surgery done by one not just a random gyno or even one that says they know endo.
If you need help finding one I can help you with that but please do research and see a specialist before you even think of heading down the hysterectomy road.
If you want I have a lot of journals about my journey. I had Stage IV, Bowel, bladder, pelvic wall and rectovaginal endo. I know the pain you mean. Please consider reading those. I am here if you have any questions.
I am so glad you had that friend say that to you. I am actually taken back because not many people know what Endo is nor the symptoms.
If you would like to read my journals in my profile I have a lot about this topic as it was one of the many symptoms that plagued me.
I would first make sure you stand firm and get a referral to an endo specialist not just a gyno because you might get a huge run around and it could take years to get them to do anything except give you more medication.
The only way to diagnose is through minimally invasive surgery biopsy and endo removal. Not an exploratory that is a waste of a surgery.
What you can expect from your regular doctor is for her to send you for blood work, ultrasound including trans-vaginal ultrasound and in the end because it is your bowels a colonoscopy to rule out bowel disease. unless you have an endometrioma (Blood filled cyst) or other cysts everything will most likely come back negative... This is when the patient usually gets frustrated and the doctors don't put two and two together. Not knocking them at all but due to lack of education the process to get diagnosed is average 8-10 yrs.
Please read my journals as I too had bowel, bladder and pain with sex. I had rectovaginal endo as well as bowel and bladder endo. I have yet to have sex and it not hurt even after being removed but my bowel movements did get better and the pain lessened by 95%
