When is menstruation pain considered to be abnormal?

Hello!

I am 25 years old and in good health.

I have scheduled an appointment with my ob for a check up later this month. When I booked the appointment, he asked me over the phone the following question:

"Do you experience any abnormal pain during your periods?"

This has given me food for thought. I am 25 years old, i've had a period since the age of 12 and i still don't know...

What exactly is abnormal pain??

I have always experienced mild to moderate menstruation cramps for the first 48 hours of my period. It's not the kind of pain that would bend me over/send me home from work but i usually take some paracetamol to feel more comfortable.

2-3 times a year, when the weather is cold or after my first swims or if i am under a lot of stress, i experience stronger cramps. They feel like contractions and they are made worse when i want to hold my pee or when i want to go to the bathroom. 1-2 times a year, I feel like my abdominal muscles are pulled when i run or cough during those first days of my period. Still, I go to work, walk etc etc. I have never been off work/ cancelled a meeting/ skipped a party because of my period. In other words, i experience pain during menstruation but it never interferes with my life.

Also, note that my periods are regular and my flow is moderate. I do not experience any PMS symptoms, maybe apart from a sense of bloating.

What makes menstruation pain abnormal?

Do these symptoms sound like i am experiencing abnormal menses?

Are there any symptoms mentioned that would point towards a medical condition e.g adenomyosis or endometriosis?

no they don't sound like Endometriosis pains,, believe me if you had the pian I had during my periods..you wouldn't even have to aks this question?? I took off from school /work, etc. for many years before my Hysterectomy @ age 32.. the suffering is horrendous...on the other hand there are cases of ENDO being seen and little pain but that is an exception, I still suffer and it is more than 20 yrs post op :-( get yourself a good OB/GYN and be tested if you are having probelms..good luck!
