I have a iud (10yr) and my peirods last for 7-8 days heavy the entire time and normally come when they are suppose to.. For 2 days my back was hurting really bad and I have digen disc desease so I thought maybe that was the reason but it started hurting really bad unlike what it usually does just wasnt sure what it was, then on the second day it still hurt just as bad if not worse and then started having really bad abdominal pain all top and bottom and I also have Colitis and thought I was just having a bad spell with that but it was hurting more than it usually does..Then the third day that evening I started my period and it was normal in color and seemed fine woke up the next morning and went to pee and looked down and it was like a REALLY dark black this has never happend before and kind of freaked me out and all that day my stomach craps seemed to be getting worse like someone was stabbing my stomach it was doubling me over in pain. Was kinda humilated to tell anyone or go to the hospital cause maybe this is normal. Still haven't went to ER or anything just kinda wishing it away, so I guess my question has anyone else had anything similar to this happen and did they seek medical attention and if so what was the problem and how was it fixed?? I'm just thinking maybe i'm kinda freaking out inside and over reacting over something that really is not that bad. So please someone help Thanks.

Yes, usually brown blood is old blood.  I was googling black blood and its linked to endo so I am not sure, it could be caused by a hormonal imbalance.

i copied and pasted this as well maybe it will help

"  this "old blood" thing. Following bleeding, form any source, blood goes through a normal breakdown process, which happens quite fast actually. Blood changes from the bright red typical of acute bleeding or fresh blood to very dark, green to black. As I have said, this happens quite quickly-within hours to a day or two.

The most common senario in what you describe is that you have menstrual bleeding within the uterus. Your anatomy is such that you probably retain this menstrual blood within the uterine cavity for a longer period of time before it passes through the cervix, allowing the blood to begin this breakdown process, changing to a much darker color. All the color change means is that the blood has "pooled" within the uterus for a period of time, rather than just flowing out immediately as fresh blood.

There is nothing problematic about this as long as your gynecologist is comfortable with his/her exam...
