endo returned? back pain from endo?

Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with endo when I was 19 in late 2012 after a lap. they found some deposits in my pouch of douglas and uterosacral ligaments. During the operation I had a Mirena put in and it completely stopped my periods, but I had to get it taken out because I put on weight and got acne. I'm currently on the pill.

Since then I have had a return of symptoms. My period was beginning to become really painful so my gyno said to skip my period and have one every 3 cycles. This would be fine however I have experienced some breakthrough bleeding after skipping it once. I also recently had a period so painful I almost had to go to the emergency department  and am starting to get pain during sex again as well.

I have lower back pain that I used to get after bowel movements and during a period that eased off for a while after my op but eventually came back a while after. I have always just put it down to the endo, but now it's there a lot, irrespective of that time of the month. Is it possible that this is endo? I am going to see my gp later next week to rule out any spinal problems, and im seeing my gyno in March because of my symptom return.

Any advice or opinions are appreciated :)

It is worth it if you go to a specialist that is trained and skilled with this disease. As for the pill I can usually tell its breakthrough because I can see some traces of blood in the toilet when I pee. It never comes on unexpectedly its gradual. I don't take sugar pills at all I just take a pill everyday and if I do have any breakthrough I try doubling up the pill to see if it will stop it but if its persistent to come through I come off it for 3 days only then go back on and even the breakthrough is so minimal. Last time I had breakthrough bleeding was Middle off October and I still have yet to have any BTB during this time and its well over the 3 month time frame.

Let me know where you live and I can find you the best surgeon in your area

I'm not sure if my surgeon is an endo specialist. I don't think so. I'm also not sure how it was taken out either.

I was advised to take it without stopping for 3 months straight and then have a period. His rationale was that it'd be better for me to have a planned period than unexpected breakthrough. Which would work except in a recent cycle I had breakthrough after one cycle (which is abnormal for me). Usually I can skip the sugar pills for 3 months and have no breakthrough at all.

Is it worth doing another surgery for a bit of relief if it might just come back?

Yes it is very possible that it is Endo.

Was the surgeon that operated on your a top Endo surgeon? There are only a handful around the world and even ones that have operated on people with Endo like regular gynos and obgyns don't have the experience they do or the skill.

Do you know if the Endo was excised out? (Cut out) that is the golden standard for treatment of Endo.

When you take the pill do you take it continuously without stopping? I have been on it for 7 yrs with no period during that time just breakthrough bleeding every 3-4 months in which I come off for 3 days and go back on. However sometimes I don't even get breakthough bleeding which is great.

Is that how you are taking the pill, just curious?
