endo?

I have been having this horrifying pain on my left side for a year and a half now.  It feels like a sharp & burning pain,  and it actually hurts to the touch when it is flared up.  I went to a gastro (actually been to three of them) because I thought it was my colon.  It almost seems like the pain is too high up to be ovarian,  although we had a CT scan and it showed a simple 2.2 cm ovarian cyst.  Anyhow,  CT is saying there's no free fluid,  no blocakges,  blah blah.  So the gastro says IBS & have some dicyclomine.

THIS ISN'T IBS!  I am so sick of that diagnosis,  what a joke.  Anyhow,  after 2 seperate ER trips & three different gastros,  someone told me that maybe it's endo.  I have an appointment with the gyno today.  Here is my question.  I noticed that the pain usually comes around the 14th and then again around the 24th of the month.  I have been keeping track for the past three months & that is the dates each month.  However,  My period started on the 6th. I do not have painful periods,  no extra cramping,  no real heavy bleeding,  no painful sex.  I have some clots that come out during periods,  but not what I ever considered abnormal. So is it possible to have endo & not have painful periods,  but the pain after the period?  (Although sometimes I have been on my period when it happens,  but as I said,  the pain seems just a little higher than the ovariy,  about 2 inches up on the colon).  Could a person have it & not have pain during sex?

Hey, I was just diagnosed with endo in July and I had no real symptoms other than a sharp pain on my right side that went down the back of my leg and infertility.  When I had my lap done, my dr. found quite a bit of endo.  It is possible to have endo with very little symptoms...I think you get so used to the symptoms that you don't even see them and shrug them off as normal.  I never had cramps with my period and it was always very light and brown, hardly red.  That was because the endo was blocking the menstral flow....everyone is different and the only real way to find out is through a laparoscopy, so glad to hear that you will be having one soon.  Good Luck!

Thanks for the responses.  I have not believed all along that this is endo,  simply becasue I don't have heavy bleeding & the other usual symptoms.  I ended up at the OBGYN due to the gastro telling me there is nothing he can find & that maybe I should go to the female doctor.  I am scheduled for a lap on 9/16/08.  I have no idea what could be wrong.  They did say that the lining of my uterus is a little thick & that my left ovary is enlarged,  not neccessarily anything to worry about,  but that it is some bigger than my right ovary.  I don't know what a thick uterus lining or an enlarged ovary can mean,  so fortunately I am not too worried at this point.  I have had all the kids that I am having,  so if it is endo,  by all means they can remove anything they want to remove,  just make the sharp pain attacks go away! I do know that the doctors say that there isn't anything over on the left side except your colon & your ovary,  so someone ought to be able to see something in there during the lap,  right?  I hope we all find relief!

Sorry I didnt see your post! I havent been on for awhile! Everyone is different with symptoms but it really doesnt sound like endo at all. If it is you are lucky with having minimal symptoms. When I was married we couldnt figure out why I was getting so sick each month when I would get my period. I had so much pain that I would pass out. I didnt have a heavy flow just severe pain on the left side and painful intercourse. We were TTC and werent having any luck so I finally went to my doctor. Without even having a lap he knew it was endo. We did schedule a lap for the next month to see to what extent it was. He said in lamens terms that I was covered with it. He put me on Lupron which suppressed the pain but put me into chemical menopause which was horrible. All of this actually destroyed my marriage. Then about 2 yrs later the pain came back even worse. So I went to a specialist who immediately scheduled a lap. I was in surgery for 2.5hrs. He said that it was covering my uterus as well as my left ovary. My chances of conceiving were placed at 50% even with fertility meds. I was devasted. I first found out at 21. I am 27 now and have been on depo for about 5 yrs to completely stop me from menstrating. It has been a blessing up until this week. I have had severe pain and started to bleed which is really odd. If it is endo I wouldnt suggest depo as over time it seems to not help. I would suggest trying a higher does BC to help with the pain after a lap is done. Also seek a specialist in your area as most OB's dont have alot of experience with it. My specialist was great! He was extremely helpful in the explanation and was gentle with my exams since they were so painful I would break down in tears. I hope this helps and good luck. I will pray its not endo and if you have any questions feel free to pm me anytime!!

Hi, I'm new to this forum as well....I had a very similar experience...and was diagnosed with endo in May 2008.  It took two GI doctors, three general surgeons, and finally on the third OBGYN thought to do a lap. to actually look at see what is going on.  I have endo on and behind my uterus, and my pelvis is full of adhesions...my symptoms aren't exactly typical of endo either...I just have the really intense pain and burning (most of the month) and pain with intercourse...it only took me a few months ot concieve my daughter (she is 14 months now) and I do not have heavy bleeding.  I say just push for a lap. surgery so they can take a look to see what is going on.  Unfortunetly my surgery proved I had endo but did not relieve my symptoms.  I hope this helps and feel free to ask away!

What went on at the gyno yesterday?  I have endo, and I am not sure if your symptoms represent the disease, honestly.  COuld it be gall bladder?  I believe with endo, there are heavy painful periods, that has been my experience, but then again, there are people who have endo and dont know.  The key would be if you were trying to get preggo and couldnt....this would be a sign of endo.  What you describe could be a veriety of different things....sorry

Thanks,  I appreciate all the feedback.  You know,  I would explain what went on at the gyno yesterday,  but every time I have ever posted a question at medhelp forums,  I have had zero response.  So,  I am guessing that you all know each other and don't care to interact with strangers,  so I won't bother,  since apparently no-one is interested.
