swollen

I really have no one I could ask or talk to about this sort of stuff- I had laparscopic surgery three weeks ago for a 4cm ovarian cyst on my left ovary. They found stage 3 endometriosis and did a D and C. I still haven't started my period and  was wondering when to expect that. I am still really bruised and wondering when that will go away and still tender and still really swollen should I worry? It has been three weeks!

I find that to be odd that you had a post op appointment after one week. Usually its around 6 weeks but maybe its different where you live or the surgery wasn't that extensive?

My swelling went down the next all three times and after a week all the gas pain was gone. Maybe use a heating pad and try to rest a little.

even if the doctor release you and said you can go back to normal stuff? I had my post op after care a week after surgery and was given the all clear which I was amazed, I have been very mindful and taking my time with things, I hope I didn't hurt anything by maybe over doing it! How long did it take for your swelling to go completely away?

It is very possible. Sometimes when we feel good free surgery we carry on with things that we shouldn't be doing such as lifting anything over 10lbs... Laundry etc. I am 3 months post op and I still have my husband bring the laundry downstairs. I can do the laundry but the insides need to heal too and since we can't see them we often forget about that

I am not on pain meds. any more. I have been walking every day and my bowl movements have been really good. I also been eating really good and taking vitamin's. I know the bruising will take some time, I just wish I would stop looking like I have a baby bump- if next week it has not gotten better, next week makes four weeks I will make another appointment with my doctor to make sure everything is still okay.

You really need to see an Endo specialist. Most likely you have seen a regular OBGYN and you want the skilled surgeon who knows everything inside and out about endo along with the skill and experience. Let me know where abouts you are and I can find you a good one that will be able to help you.

I am responding to this because I found out a little over a year ago I have endomitriosis. Mine is on my bladder, bowels, intestines, ovaries, and uterus and was spreading else where. At the time of my laproscopic procedure mt organs were too inflamed to operate on the cells and there was some blood in the abdomen. Doctors said it couldn't be removed, then I was put on Lupron shot for about a year and then they took me off because they said I was at the limit of intake. Now they are doing nothing for me and my pain is worse then ever...what is my next step? Doctors are saying pain pills and I do not want to go that route

Oh okay that makes sense. That is good that you have a good relationship with your doctor it makes a huge difference.

I would actually go into see her just to check it out to make sure all is good. It is probably just bruising from the surgery and as long as there is no leaking from the incisions you should be okay. The bloating should go away soon. Make sure you keep walking. Also are you have bowel issues? It could be the reason for the bloating. I took stool softeners for about 3 weeks after surgery as I have bowel issues not sure if they told you to take any of those.

Are you still on pain meds or no?

thank you so much getting back with me- I have three tiny incisions, one in my belly button and two on my lower left side. She used a laser and said she had gotten all the endometriosis. She gave me pill norethindrone- but have not taken any yet as to I am scared- I have a wonderful relationship with my doctor but I don't have a lot of family or friends- who I could ask this to. I just wonder if I should still be swollen like I am. I don't know if a robot was used in my surgery I never thought to ask that to my doctor. But my cyst was an endometriosis cyst.

welcome to the Endometriosis Forum. I can help you with your questions based on my experience and to let you know that I am not a doctor.

Coming here to ask a question is wonderful but I am concerned that you don't feel comfortable to ask your doctor or surgeon unless you mean you don't feel comfortable talking to family or something like that. The relationship between you and your doctor is key esp with this disease. Sorry if that sounds like a lecture :)

Okay so when they did the surgery did they excise (cut out) the endo or just use laser? Was it an open surgery or did they only do 3-4 tiny incisions? Was the Divinci (sp?) robot used for this surgery? Did they give you an injection like Lupron or the Depot after surgery or are you taking something like that?

Sometimes after surgery it takes a bit for your system to regulate again so that could be why you have not got your period yet.

I will need the answers to the question above to help you with some answers about your recovery. :)
