is epilepsy hereditary from mother

my wife had epilepsy when she was around 9 years old. she received around 1 year treatment, and got it "cured". since then, she is seizures free and medicine free.
her Aunty (father's sister) had the same problem when she was young, and she is fine now also.
now we are planning to have a baby. my question is: is such epilepsy hereditary? will my child develop the same problem later when he/she is around 10 years old? if so, is there anyway to prevent this from happening?
Thanks.

I have had epilepsy for 32 years now. In the nine months i was caring my son I never had a seizure. My mothers brothers, father, and uncles had seizures. Out of the four children my mother has all girls I'm the only one to have seizures. You have a one in 25 percent chance your child will have seizures. Have your child and thank the lord every day you have him or her. Thier is so much treatment now to help control them.I beleive my seizures have made me a stronger women
