Is this possible?

by Diamond1262, Nov 06, 2009 09:54PM
My 11 year old son was recently diagnosed with Epilepsy and is on Trileptol.  Because this is new for me, I have been reading a little on what it is, causes etc.. I noticed that my son has some of the symptoms on more than one type of seizures.  Is this possible?

He doesn't have the type that causes him to fall and jerk uncontrollably.  He seems to only seize when he's sleeping.  He wakes up taking a deep breath and then his face kind of freezes.  He sounds like he is gagging when this happens and the jumps around in circles, runs through the house and hits the walls and furniture.  He also hits his chest and when he's able to talk, he yells that he can't breath and screams.  Once this is over, he immediately starts to cry and then lays back down to go to sleep only to be waken again after about 4 minutes.  This was going on all through the night for weeks at a time before he was properly diagnosed and given treatment.

I also realized that all the times it seems like he was not paying attention or day dreaming, it was seizure activity that was happening.  I was told that he has frontal lobe seizures.

How would you label someone that has symptoms from different types?  Has anyone ever gone through this with a child?  Are there support groups for this?  I would like to attend something like that with my son so that he is able to understand what is happening to him.

I'm not sure why he started having them, but I do know that he has family on his father's side that has the disease and he had a head injury a few years back while visiting with his father.

Will he ever grow out of this?  He hasn't had a seizure since he's been on medication.  Is there still a chance that the seizures will return while on the medication?
