My daughter and Clonazepam

My daughter and Clonazepam

My daughter was given Clonazepam as an adjunct therpy drug to help stop her seizures.  She is also taking Trileptal and Keppra.  The latter drugs did not give her any side effects and she tolerated them well.  Once we started the Clonazepam (and I knew it came with many more side-effects) she has been quite drowsy.  She has been titrated up to 3 mg/day.  It has in fact stopped her seizure activity.  Her neurologist chose this drug as she also suffers from hyperekplexia and clonazepam is the only drug of choice to help this disorder.  He decided to try and stop both the breakthrough seizures and help the other disorder.  My concern is that she has missed so much school because of the drowsiness but I do notice her side-effects are getting better.  It has been 2 months since she started the Clonazepam.  Is it common to have the side-effects this long and will they eventually dissipate to the point that she can function like she did before the Clonazepam?  Her neurologist believes that the Trileptal is not having any effect on stopping the seizures at this point since she has been taking that drug for 5+ years. So, he has cut back the Trileptal but he does not want to cut things too quickly at this point-which I agree with.
Your response would be appreciated.

Floow what the doctor says. He knows her, her history and appears to think straight. Medications are tricky to adjust, and his not wanting to cut things too quickly is a good thing.
Your daughter can make up the school work or repeat a grade IF it comes to that...far better than having seizure after seizure, I'd think.
