Pediatric epilepsy and ADHD

I have a 12 yr. old son who was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 6, and has been under a doctors care and taking medication since.  In 2007 he had a Tonic Clonic seizure.  Since then, he has had 2 EEg's that show numerous small "mini seizures" declaring themselves as intense short headaches (lasting 30 sec. to 2 min.)  He started DepakoteER in Oct. of 2007.  At that time he was an honor student, taking part in many school activities and had many friends.  In Nov. of 2007 he became a "D" average student, with many behavioral issues at school, and home.  We have been working non-stop with his psychiatrist adjusting and changing  his ADHD medications, to no avail. My sons neurologist seems completely unbending in her desire to keep him on Depakote, rather than changing or altering his medication to see if this is causing these problems, even though, my sons symptoms are known side effects of this medication.  ANY feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, my eldest son had ADHD, and was given ritalin. His psychiatrist was open to tweaking his meds to suit his needs as well. My youngest child has epilepsy, and we have changed meds several times. This is the norm with epilepsy meds, you change the meds to suit the situation. Have you thought of getting a second opinion? Has it stopped the headaches? There are so many medications out there for epilepsy, it must be possible to find one to suit. My little girl had meds that turned her into a virtual zombie, and although it helped with the seizures, her quality of life was so adversely affected, they changed it. I woul definitely look into who else is out there for him.
