Question about a Grand Mal seizure.

Question about a Grand Mal seizure.

Hello. I had a Grand Mal seizure about 4 years ago (I was 25 at the time). Never really went to seek help but I was just wondering if you can get permanent nerve damage from a seizure. The seizure itself was about 2 minutes in length. It was my only one and never had another since then. The doctors believe it was Wellbutrin that caused it.

I was extremely weak for about 3 months afterwards and it took me literally 20 minutes to walk upstairs. I kept waking from nerve pain and when I would move too fast I would get this electric type shock feeling throughout my body and a taste of iron in my mouth. I'm sure this may be nerve damage. I'm a pretty fit/athletic guy and never had any problems before but I have lower back pain when I work and my body lightly shakes in certain positions which leads me to believe it must be from the severe muscle spasms I was having during.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is some evidence that prolonged siezures, called status epilepticus, can cause brain injury.

The verdict if out on grand mal siezures.

Most likely not.

But there is the exception to the rule.

If the doctors thinmk it was a medication a form should have been filed with the FDA. If this has not been done, do so at this time. Get copies of your medical records and evaluations.

I am not a happy camper with frivolous law actions, but there is a possibility of a tort and financial compensation, or at least payment for your treatment from the manufacturer, if the etiology of the seizure was in fact a medication.
