please help

hi i am 21 years old about a year ago i had a seizure at work, it was right after i had woken up from a nap. my family has no history of epilepsy or seizures. i have since had two more, so three all together in a year. all of them the same and all of them right after waking up. i now know when they are happening. i am very confused after ward almost like i am in a daze or sleep walking. i have called my dad and not known what i was doing and even drove to a gas station to get gas and had only a vague memory of it. i went to a neurologist after my second one and he diagnosed me with epilepsy without even giving me any tests. i did however have an MRI done and it came back fine. i still haven't had an eeg or anything like that done. i know that i don't eat well or sleep well at all, and i do drink beer pretty often. each time i have an episode my heart beats fast and my head turns to the right and i can feel the left side of my mouth droop down. i pass out, and this last time was the only time that i was able to measure how long, i was out of it for about an hour, and i was very confused for about a half an hour after that. i am wondering if it is really epilepsy or if i could be experiencing very low glucose levels, that throw me into those fits. it also seems that it is usually close to the start of my cycle when it happens. any information would be greatly appreciated

thank you,
shondell

Hi there,

An EEG is helpful to detect Epileptic activity. You can have a normal EEG which only spikes when a seizure occurs or you can have subtle epileptic activity occasionally or all the time which isn't chaotic enough to cause a full-blown seizure. I found an excellent guide to epilepsy which was a godsend of useful information.

Epilepsy Patient & Family Guide by Orrin Devinsky, MD

It not only explains EEG's, etc it describes in great detail with examples the different types of seizures and meds used to treat them. I hope this helps. K
