Duration of EBV

I've had EBV for 30 yrs now.  Anyone longer?  I wish I could hear of someone getting better.  Hard to deal w/ such an unknown future.

Good luck,
PattyB

Hi pattybran, are you saying you've had the symptoms that long?  If so, that's by far the longest "active" case I've ever heard of!!  Or maybe you've had it off and on during that time period?  It's true that EBV remains in the body the rest of your life; however, it can be re-activated by many different factors.  It took me well over a year to fight off a re-activation, but everyone is different.  Regardless though, it is possible to get well, or at least back to "normal"; it just takes time and rest.

If you have had positive EBV titers test and negative HIV test results, I don't think you need to worry about HIV; I realize that's easier said than done though.  Are you seeing a doctor about this?  If so, what has he/she told you?

Once infected, EBV remains in the body for life in a dormant state..So anyone your age or older would have had it "longer" .  The good news is that EBV does not cause life long symptoms.  For some people, usually adolescents,  EBV can cause Mononucleosis, a self-limiting disease marked by soar throat, swollen glands, fatigue, fever etc...Hope this helps
