EBV ...CAEBV?

EBV ...CAEBV?

Hello,

I was reading through the posts in this community and I was hoping to receive some advice or suggestions.

I had mononucleosis in highschool (around the age of 15).  When I had mono, I was sleeping approximately 20 hours of the day.  Ever since then, I feel like my body has never been the same.  I am currently 29 yrs old (female). Everyday I am very fatigued (it has been over 10 years).  Sleep and exercise does not seem to help. TO be honest, I often feel more exhausted after excercise, which is frustrating.  Also, I generally get over eight hours of sleep each night, usually around 9 hours. I typcially feel like I have to push through the day.  Everyday I could nap and I sometimes have to take time off work because of this exhaustion.  Also, I frequently get colds and they seem to last a long time (longer than they should normally).

I am convinced this stems from the EBV when I had mono.  I have been reading about CAEBV and CFS.  My feeling is that the EBV has triggered CFS or it has lead to a persistent illness in my system.

I do not know where to go from here.  I have been to my family doctor several times and he has ruled out other causes of fatigue (e.g. depression, testing thyroids), but I don't seem to be getting any solid answers.

I am hoping for suggestions about what I should be tested for any helpful information suggestions what type of doctor I should be seeing?  In January I will be seeing a doctor who specializes in internal medicine.

Thank you for your help, I appreciate it!

Hello, I can see why you're frustrated!  It sounds like you're doing everything you should be, but with limited success.  There's probably a good chance you're correct that all this stems from your mono/EBV infection.  I'm not exactly sure on the doctor you're talking about, but I would suggest seeing an Infectious Disease Specialist.  Usually they deal with CFS, so I would think they would be able to help you pin down what's going on.  Sorry I don't have more answers, but I wish you all the best in dealing with this!
