Mono questions

I recently have had the worst sore throat ever. My glands are huge. I went to the doctor cause i thought i had strep, but my doctor said i may have mono. The day before i went to the doctor i was with my boyfriend and we kissed. Is there a big possibility that he would have mono as well as me. and if so how long would it probably be before we can hang out again? just wondering. thanks

I actually disagree with the posters above, I don't see any point in testing for mono, unless he is not well. There is no treatment for mono anyway, so if he feels OK, why bother testing for it? A waste of time and money.

As far as kissing goes: I would avoid it, but don't sweat it too much - most people have EBV already. He probably has it anyway.

Hi, I would say that yes, you boyfriend should also be tested for mono, but not yet.  I would wait at least a couple weeks, as it usually takes around 4-6 weeks from initial infection for EBV to really become apparent.  At least that's the way I've understood it from what I've heard.  Hope that helps, and I hope you have a quick recovery!

I would say your boyfriend needs to be tested for mono also if you have it. Mono is spread through saliva, so kissing is out of the question and so is sharing cups and that sort of thing until you are cleared.
