New to EBV

by awesomemama, Apr 30, 2008 09:51PM
I have been having some fatigue and joint/muscle pain/aching. My Dr had ran labs and everything came back normal. This last time I went in I thought maybe the joint pain was being caused (had gotten worse) from a new medication I had been rx for migraines. I don't know why but this time my Dr ran more labs and one of them was to check for EBV (below are my results). He comments that the IgG was an old infection. He had rx me a 5 day dose pak of steroids before my labs came back and I felt much better, joint pain and I had energy. I can't tell you how wonderful that felt. I honestly felt this was over.....however the aching/pain has started to come back and is getting worse again. I remember being sick once when I was younger had unexplained fever for over a week and just felt blah but don't remember any of the other symptoms of mono and never was tested for mono.

I'm frustrated as I just want answers. What does this mean? Should I continue to see my GP or should I see someone else (specialist)? My Dr initally said he would see me again in 3 months. Should I request the labs be drawn again, should they be lower?

EBV Acute Infection Antibodies 5
EBV early Antigen Ab, IgG 44
EBV Ab VCA, IgG 1612 (High >120)
EBV Nuclear Antigen Ab, IgG 1172 (High >120)

I appreciate any insight and help. TIA!

good question I can not get the answer to that either and I have been asking for 3 years now my numbers are about twice yours and still climbing I guess it just depends on what DR you ask because I have been told all kinds of different things by different DR's some say chronic EBV others say no just a old infection. or that some underlying condition is causing it so they give me ANOTHER HIV test (like the other 13 of them where wrong or something LOL) Let me know what you find I would love to know also

I would consider seeing a physician who knows about EBV (and CFS) immediately. The only reason why I'm saying this is because I've heard that the sooner you treat these infections, the better.
