Valtrex

I have had chronic dizziness, brain fog,  feelings if unreality, and severe ear pain- feels like burning aching sensation. All I have for a  diagnosis is that one test out of 4 was positive for ebv- the IGG, suggesting a recent infection.  I have felt theses symptoms for 3 months.  Anyone        have success with valtrex alleviating symptoms ?My Dr. prescribed it for 1 week.  I also take desipramine (TCA) and have not had any relief from that yet either.  It has been 2 weeks.  How long can this crazy virus last? Does it subside or run it's course within 6 months? I thought I read this somewhere.  Sorry for the multiple questions- this  is  just so frustrating... I want relief. Any input would be helpful. Thanks!!!

Chances are, your symptoms will go away as your body fights off the virus.  Unfortunately that always takes longer than we would like!  Your best chances to get over it more quickly are to get LOTS of rest and try to eat as healthy as possible.  Hope things start improving soon!

Thank you for your insight as well.  I will get tested for Lymes. It just seems like my symptoms do not match that either.   Dizziness and ear pain  only.  I am going to see a neurologist.  Can they test nerve functioning or damage in the brain/ head region-  I also wonder if viruses like ebv can attack parts of the body... I am just searching for a diagnosis.

Thank you for your reply.  I hope u explain this correctly...  My doc said I have tested positive fie ebv...  Not mono.  Isn't mono the inection that could be caused by thus virus, but not necessarily? I have no mono symptoms- no fatigue, swollen glands, fever.  That is why I am puzzled.  Dic prescribed valtrex since ebv is a virus in the same class as herpes.  Well, hasn't worked anyway... No surprise. So if my dizzies and ear pain caused by this virus... Will it ever go away?

Lyme disease is a closer possibility, although researchers think Lymes MIGHT lay dormant and come out when a stressor appears such as EBV. HSV, CMV.   I would get the IGENEX Lymes test or contact ILADS (www.ilads.org) to check your symptoms.  The Borrelia bacteria is known to cause anxiety, sleep disorders and heart palpitations or Mitral Valve prolapse.  Dont waste any time.  The sooner you can get tested, the better your chances of recovery.

I'm surprised you Doctor prescribed you Valtrex, it's a herpes medication that's has no effect on the symptoms of mono.  I think there was a study on it in the past but it doesn't work. so that's weird you DR. gave you that..Mono can take a few months to clear up.  Rest and patience are the only remedy.
