ebv

I have been experiencing EXTREME fatigue for a few years now ( with a variety of seemingly unrelated symptoms).  I finally decided to see a doctor and had a fair amount of blood work done.  She said that my levels for ebv were high, although not active.  She did however say they were the highest she has seen in a while.  I'm not sure what the levels are, but could this still be a cause of my fatigue?  She diagnosed me with CFS.

I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I also have CFS and I understand how difficult it is to have a "CFS" diagnosis.

I wanted to ask you some things first. Which tests did your physician order on you ? And did she rule out autoimmune diseases, heart problems, lyme disease and/or other possible conditions for your symptoms ?

Also... here is a list of symptoms that CFS patients have:

I hope that you will consider joining me in the fibro / CFS board. I am the Community Leader in the forum... here's the link:

She tested my thyroid, did an initial mono test and a full cbc.  When that came back with nothing, she had me wear a pulse ox moniter at night to rule out sleep apnea.  When that came back fine, shw put me on effexor to hopefully give me some energy.  That's when she sent me for the ebv titers and ANA(i think?).  She said it was a test for autoimmune disorders.  The effexor did nothing so i am to start wellbutrin in a week or so.

In one respect I like her because it seems like few doctors will even associate ebv with anything, but on the other hand she told me that since now I know a possible cause maybe I'll feel better.  Like I'm going to say"Oh! That's what's wrong.  Suddenly I'm not tired anymore!"

And by the way, I'm not depressed.

Thank you for yoor info!

Treatments for CFIDS:

http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Fibromyalgia/Treatments-for-Chronic-Fatigue-Syndrome/show/453?cid=39

The thyroid test that apparently almost all fibro and CFS patients are failing (T3 REVERSE):

T3 REVERSE -- "The mix of treatments needed varies from patient to patient. There are some abnormalities that are common. For instance, close to 100% of individuals with these syndromes have low thyroid. This is, however, usually not picked up on the standard blood tests because the TSH is not elevated in these individuals due to pituitary dysfunction. Many of these individuals will also have high levels of the anti-thyroid reverse T3, which is usually not measured on standard blood tests. In addition, the majority of individuals can also have a thyroid receptor resistance that is not detected on the blood tests. Consequently, thyroid treatment, especially with timed release T3, is effective for many patients. T4 preparations (inactive thyroid) such as Synthroid and Levoxyl do not work well for these conditions."

Interesting info.  I also had my thyroid tested when my daughter was 8 mos. old because I had lost so much weight.  Would  the results always be neg?
